Discussion:
Free alternatives to Dreamweaver?

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a free alternative to Adobe's
Dreamweaver software. I'm looking for something for Windows with tag
completion (offering a drop-down of tag auto-complete choices when you
start typing something) and a WYSIWYG editor. I'm not interested in setting
up a virtual server or anything like that.

Thanks!

Ah yes, why didn't I think of that before! :P
I know HTML, I just like the tag completion and WYSIWYG features of
Dreamweaver... and the fact that it will auto-close tags for you.

So you're not looking for a WSISWIG web layout/markup editor, you're
looking for a good html/css editor.

For what it's worth, Chrome (and probably other browsers) has a debugger
that lets you edit css and stuff inline to see how it looks. I frequently
do that, then when it looks right I copy/paste it into the actual doc.

I feel like WYSIWYG web editors are kind of dying/dead, they aren't that
useful these days..

You can also use the ugly thing Sublime was based on (geany, http://www.geany.org).

JavaScript based WYSIWYG editors are great, no matter the decade. Visual Studio Express used to be okay, but it's kinda bloated for just HTML.

I started writing my own once (because I'm ridiculous), but Chrome's likely the best choice.
